I sell a lot of bourbon here. I’ve had it all. However, I’ve NEVER done a private bottling. I’ve tried in the past, but it never quite worked out. Then, in January 2010, I had a discussion with the folks at the Kentucky Bourbon Distillers. They make bourbons such as Johnny Drum, Willett and Old Bardstown. Inevitably, the topic of a private bottling came up. I told them I’ve been wanting to do something similar in proof to Stagg and they said “OK!” So, I got a bunch of samples and picked out an INCREDIBLE 16yr barrel. This bourbon was like nothing else I have EVER had! I was told that once I pick the barrel, it will be bottled and delivered within a month. HA!!!! It’s took me 8 months to get the barrel. In that time frame, it turned into a 17yr old. What I finally got was the Willett 17yr Family Estate Bottled Single Barrel 137.6 Proof Bourbon Whiskey. This is an AMAZING bourbon. The only thing I can compare it to is Jefferson 17yr Presidential Select on steroids.

Now, this barrel only yielded 132 bottles, which isn’t much. I’ve tasted most of my better bourbon customers on this whiskey and have already sold about 48 bottles. When I asked them to guess the price, they all said about $120/bottle. I could charge that price and be justified, but I won’t. Since this is our first private bottling I’ve decided to keep the price low to ensure a quick sell-out. That means I’m putting it on sale for $89.99/bottle.
