Spanish wines are all the rave nowadays. They are getting big press and are very affordable. Spain has always produced great wine, but only in the last few years has it grown in notoriety. It’s funny because most people think that a lot of the highly rated wines are new to the market, but in all honesty they’ve been around for years and years!

Today’s feature is on the 2011 Torres Sangre de Toro Tinto Catalunya. The Torres family is probably the biggest wine producer in all of Spain. We have featured their wines in the past and they ALL sell well. Sangre de Toro is a great wine that doesn’t get a lot of attention, which is a shame because this wine is very jammy with strawberry, blackberry and cherry notes. The tannins are very subtle and it’s a perfect wine to enjoy with food. It’s perfect with hamburgers, steak, pot roast and pork chops. As for the price, I’m going to put it on sale for $6.99/bottle. If you’ve never had this brand then you should give it a try. If you haven’t had it recently then I suggest you try it again. It’s the best it’s been in a long time and at the price you can’t go wrong.

Over the last few weeks we’ve been running a lot of specials on Spanish reds. I’m not sure what it is, but everything being offered to us has been a grand slam! These wines are getting big scores and are sub-$10/bottle. Our selling is only limited by our distributors’ inventory.

Today’s special is on the 2011 Bodegas Avante Tineta Ribera Del Duero. This wine is a little different than some of our other features such as the Rio Madre and Garnacha De Fuego. Tineta has a lot more backbone than the other wines. It’s complex, fuller bodied with more smoke balancing it out. While the other wines I mentioned are great, they are a little more of a “pour and go” kind of wines. Tineta is something you will want to take a couple of minutes to slow down with and enjoy all the little nuances. You might be thinking this wine is going to cost $15 or more, but you’d be wrong. I’m putting it on sale for $9.99/bottle. Don’t let that low price throw you off. This wine offers a lot of complexity for the money. I’d go far as to say it’s more complex than some wines three times the cost.
