Last week my best friend invited me over to his apartment to hang out and crack some good beers open. Of course he asked me to grab some beers before I came by and of course I agreed. So I hit up a local liquor store by him, walked straight into the craft brew section, and I suddenly stopped and instantly got pissed off! Sitting on the shelf was a bottle of Harpoon 100 Barrel Series #36 Island Creek Oyster Stout. Well, I never was offered a chance to pick up any of the Harpoon 100 Barrel Series! I didn’t even know they were available. My biggest question was why the hell didn’t I get it? So I called my salesperson up and of course got sent to his voice mail, surprise surprise. After he didn’t return my phone call, I bumped into him at the store and all he told me was it was sold out. Of course the first thing I did was yell, bitch, and scream. All he promised me I would get the first shot on the new barrel series coming out this month, so here it is.
Since 2003 Harpoon Brewery has been putting out a limited edition bottling called their “100 Barrel Series.” They call it the 100 Barrel Series because that’s exactly what it is. It’s a one-of-a-kind limited batch creation fashioned by a Harpoon brewer. Every couple of months a different Harpoon brewer will choose a style, develop a recipe, and brew the beer, all the way from selecting the ingredients to the final filtration. Harpoon 100 Barrel Series# 37 Rich & Dan’s Rye IPA is an unfiltered rye IPA to celebrate “25 wonderful years of brewing beer”. It’s so new it hasn’t been rated enough on ratebeer.com for me to give you a ranking, and I only have a limited amount. Don’t wait around because I know for sure this sold out at my distributor and I can’t get my hands on any more.
