Every now and again, one of our distributors will offer a “One Day Sale” on a wine. As you can ascertain, we get a discounted price on a particular wine, which is usually something high-end. That leaves me with a decision. Do I leave the wine at the same price and make some extra money or do I pass along the savings to our customers? PASS ALONG THE SAVINGS TO OUR CUSTOMERS!!!!!!

The wine that was featured in the “One Day Sale” was the 2004 Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella, which was rated 94pts by the Wine Advocate. Normally retailing for $90/bottle or more, the special pricing allows me to offer it to you for $74.99/bottle. Let me put this price into perspective. Before the 2004 came in, I wanted to clear out my remaining cases of the 2003, which was rated 92pts by the Wine Advocate. I sold those bottles for $74.99/bottle. That means we are offering you a higher rated vintage for the same price as the vintage being closed out. SCORE!

Today I’m featuring Boekenhoutskloof The Wolftrap Syrah Mourvedre Viognier 2011, better known as Wolftrap Red. This wine, which was rated “Winery of the Year” by Platters South African Wine Guide, is the proverbial “sleeper hit” in the wine industry. Each vintage has scored in the high 80’s low 90’s since its release. What’s best about this wine is the price. Normally, it retails for $9-$11/bottle, so to say it’s “affordable” is a HUGE understatement. That being said, I’m going to SMASH that price and will be featuring it for $6.67/bottle. I did a quick search and didn’t see anyone with a price that low. This is a great opportunity to get a great wine at a great price. I have no problem suggestion you pick up a case. You won’t be disappointed.

Going away? Weather concerns? We’ll hold your order and ship it on the date that you specify.

We get a lot of people coming into Shoppers Vineyard looking for an easy drinking, inexpensive red wine that they can have with pizza and pasta. There are more than 500 items I can suggest and I’m sure I have suggested all of them. I would say the “sweet spot” is about $10/bottle. I just got a killer special on a wine and I can guarantee you’ve never heard of, which isn’t a bad thing, but will slash that price in half.

I’m not sure what the story is, but my distributor is closing out the Torre Quarto Sangue Blu Negroamaro Puglia. I think they are losing the brand and just getting rid of their remaining inventory. This wine is PERFECT with pizza and pasta and I’m putting a case deal on it. This wine would normally run you about $156/case, but I’m closing it out for $50/case. I’m not allowed to feature this special price online. If you ever wondered why we can’t feature certain prices online it’s because the distributor doesn’t want to have bad relationships with the winery/importer and heavily discounted prices upset them. That means the discount will apply during check-out. Granted, Negroamaro isn’t the most well known grape, but for the price it’s worth picking up a case.

Today’s special is on the 2005 Recchia Ca’Bertoldi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico, which was just rated 92pts by the Wine Spectator. Here’s the review:

“A tarry red, with firm tannins backing tobacco-tinged flavors of dried black currant, cocoa powder, cherry preserves, ground spice and nut. This shows good intensity and focus, ending with a well-knit, lingering finish. Drink now through 2025. 3,500 cases made.”

This wine retails anywhere from $30-$40/bottle. I’m going to put it on sale for $24.99/bottle. Let me put this price into perspective for you. I just closed out my remaining inventory of the 2003 Bertani Amarone, which was also rated 92pts by the Wine Spectator. The original retail price on the Bertani was around $90/bottle and I was closing it out for $65/bottle. They both got the same score but Recchia is AT LEAST 62% less than Bertani. Granted, the vintages are different, but lets be serious you will be hard pressed to find another Amarone at the same price and rating.

I trust my customers implicitly, so when it comes time for me to pour some of my favorite wines every Saturday, I ALWAYS pay attention to how they respond. I already know why I brought the 2010 Domaine Paul Chapelle Bourgogne Blanc into Shoppers Vineyard (Duh — so I’d have access to this Killer Wine for my own cellar), but when people went GAGA last Saturday over this French Chardonnay, I thought one thing: EMAIL OFFER!!!

Domaine Paul Chapelle is one of the best-kept secrets in Burgundy, making STUNNING Puligny-Montrachet in a classic style. Today’s wine, his 2010 Bourgogne Blanc, is 100% Puligny-Montrachet. Puligny-Montrachet vineyards yield some of the GREATEST Chardonnay on the planet, and today’s wine is an early bottling from Chapelle’s estate vineyards. Only 190 cases were made! Regularly $22, I am offering this for $16.99/btl! ACT NOW.

Wake up! Right in front of you stands what Robert Parker, The New York Times, Wine Spectator and Decanter have consistently hailed as one of the “World’s Greatest Wine Values”! Hugel et Fils’ 2008 Pinot Gris just nailed 90 points from Wine spectator and a “Smart Buy” that stands this brand out as a “Best Buy” every year!

The Hugel family’s pioneering place in Alsace can be traced back to the 15th century, and is, today, still family-owned and operated (rivaling Antinori). Hugel’s Pinot Gris captures the essence of French White Wine: Fruit packed, terroir-driven passion-filled wines that always amaze, no joke!

Regularly $24, you can grab this Smart Buy for $15.99/btl. and sample what an ancient winemaking family can make for a dream price! Cheers!.

Before yesterday, I didn’t think it possible, but I actually scored what I believe to be Cameron Hughes GREATEST CHARDONNAY release to date. Of course, his previous Chardonnays have been EXCELLENT for the money, but the fruit on the 2010 Cameron Hughes Chardonnay Lot 334, from Atlas Peak/Napa Valley, is head and shoulders above anything I’ve ever tasted at this price. Regularly $17, the Lot 334 is coming to you for $11.99.

Many of the people at last nights Cameron Hughes Wine Dinner that tasted this wine fell in love with it. So don’t wait to get yours now.
