It never ceases to amaze me when you can randomly stack something on the floor and it immediately starts to sell without having to put it in someone’s hand. That’s what happened with the 2011 Marchesi di Barolo Barbera d’Alba Maraia.

This deal originally started off with our distributor offering us a close-out on the 2010 Marchesi di Barolo Barbera d’Alba Maraia. Unfortunately, the pricing wasn’t right, so we didn’t take the deal. However, we did take in the 2011 vintage, which was rated 90pts by the Wine Spectator. We just put a stack on the floor and it immediately started selling. Why? I LITERALLY have no idea. There are a lot of wines out there with the same score that are cheaper, but sells nowhere near the Marchesi. I wish this happens all the time. To sum it up, it sells and I can’t tell you why, but it must be something. Buy a few bottles and maybe you can enlighten me.

I completely forgot to feature the 2006 Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon before Christmas. Better late than never, so here goes nothing. The 2006 Beringer Private Reserve was rated 93pts by the Wine Advocate and the International Wine Cellar with a release price of $110/bottle. I’m going to SMASH that price by featuring it for $60/bottle! That’s a 46% discount! Just to put everything on the table, I’m able to feature this price because the winery had extra inventory and asked my distributor to take some at a reduced price. I’m just passing along the savings.

Southern Tier Choklat just came rolling in the door, which I have to admit is a little surprising since it’s usually delivered in October/November. This beer has been rated 100pts by Ratebeer.com and I’m featuring it for $8.99/bottle! For some reason our distributor cut our order, which means we have less than we’ve had in previous years. I’m not really bothered by this because we have more Southern Tier beers than we need, but the Choklat is one of the best sellers.

We do A LOT of social networking here at Shoppers Vineyard. As a result, we get a lot of questions from customers. More often than not, we are being asked to feature specific wines. Today, I had a customer ask for a special price on Aurum Alpes Pinot Grigio Alto Adige. They asked on our Facebook page. The everyday sale price on this wine is $9.99/bottle. We also have an everyday case price of $120/case. Because I was inspired by this customer, I’ve decided to run a special on the case for $96/case with FREE GROUND SHIPPING! I will run this special until December 31st, 2012. Take advantage of this great price.

Today’s email special is on the 2011 Cave De Roquebrun Coteauc Du Languedoc Terrasses De Frigoulet. Yes it’s a very long name, so let’s just call it Terrasses De Frigoulet. Long, weird name aside, this is a killer wine. It’s is a BIG, fruit forward wine with notes of chocolate, cherry, blackberry, plum and smoke. It also has a big long finish. You’d think a wine this big wouldn’t offer a lot of complexity, but in my opinion it over delivers! I had it with Chinese food on Christmas day and it was GREAT! Little did I know it was rated 90pts by the Wine Spectator. I just found that out yesterday. Of course, the icing on the cake is the price. For the next week I’m going to out the Terrasses De Frigoulet on sale for $7.99/bottle. That’s an incredible price on this wine. This is a wine you buy a case of.

Christmas and Hanukah are over, but that doesn’t mean the gift giving season is over. Today’s deal is on the 2008 Chateau Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Oddly enough, a former wine manager bought this wine and guaranteed it would be sold within a month. That was 11 months ago. Some people know how to sell and some don’t. I on the other hand know how to sell. The best way to move an item like Montelena is accepting the fact that you’re not going to make any money on it. Why? The customer won’t pay the industry/winery suggested retail price because it’s too high. That’s why I’m going to feature it for the wholesale cost of $110/bottle. But that’s not enough and I know it. I’m also going to offer free ground shipping on every bottle of the 2008 Montelena Estate Cabernet you purchase. Am I making any money on this deal? No way! But wines like Montelena are classic and people will buy them if the deal is good enough. Is the deal good enough? I think so, but it only matters if you think so.

As many of you know, we directly import Tenuta di Burchino Chianti Superiore. In our personal opinion, this wine is better than 95% of the Chianti’s in the category. It’s also a fraction of the price because when you import a wine directly you cut out the middleman and save a lot of money. This wine normally retails for $25/bottle, but I’m going to feature a 6-pack for $60. Imagine getting Ruffino Tan Label for that price? It’s not going to happen, but you can imagine. The stack is low, so order soon!
