Last week was a little crazy for me at the Vineyard! I kind of fell a little behind on my responsibilities here and almost saw Seth’s head explode from anger (that would have actually been pretty funny, to tell you the truth). So, I’m sorry to those of you who were waiting for a beer e-mail. Let me make it up to you…

Every beer lover knows that Stone Brewing Co. is the one of the top brewers in the county, and there is no arguing that. They are known for pumping out consistently awesome beers, but they do have one downside: a lot of the beers they produce are SUPER-ALLOCATED.

This month, the Stone Brewing Co. released two beers. The first was their Imperial Russian Stout. It received a perfect rating of 100 points from ratebeer.com and the Beer Advocate gave it an A. For more information on this beer check out Stone’s tasting notes.

The second beer they released was their Belgo Anise Imperial Russian Stout. It was rated 95 points by ratebeer.com and given a B+ from the Beer Advocate. Here’s Stone’s tasting notes for this one. I only received a tiny amount of cases so don’t fiddle around, order these beers now because I guarantee you I’m going to be sold out within a blink of an eye.

DO NOT PASS ON TODAY’S WINE: Achaval-Ferrer Malbec is, IMHO, THE BEST sub-$20 Malbec coming out of Argentina in modern times. Five years ago, James Molesworth of Wine Spectator SINGLED OUT Achaval-Ferrer as the country’s top winery for its role in Argentina’s wine revolution. Again, in December 2010, Jay Miller of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate named Achaval-Ferrer as “Best of the Best” for “exploring Mendoza’s best terroirs for Malbec”!

Today’s offer is on the 2010 Achaval Ferrer Malbec, a wine I’ve been raving about for months, and it JUST arrived on U.S. soil. I’m not the only one excited beyond words: Argentina’s vintners are ecstatic about their 2010 vintage, with some calling it the best since 2002 (WS94points!).

**Take note that today’s deal is different from ALL THE OTHERS: Achaval-Ferrer allocated a one-time only shipment to the supplier, so once it’s gone, it’s gone for good! Regularly $24, I’ve slashed the price to an all-time low of $14.95/bottle, or 38% OFF!!! DO NOT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY — it’ll be long gone by the time Spectator lists it in their TOP 100 Wines of 2011!!! Cheers.

BEFORE TODAY, I had never even HEARD of today’s 92 Point Wine Spectator wine, the 2008 Pillar Box Reserve made by cult winery Henry’s Drive: it was THAT highly allocated. The wholesaler opened up the last 15 cases of this ‘hidden’, HIGHLY ALLOCATED gem for $14.95/bottle!!!

Pillar Box Reserve is a DREAM AUSSIE SHIRAZ: ‘Old Vine’, ‘Best Parcels’ ‘French Oak’ – no wonder this wine’s been on lock-down for restaurants only, BUT NOT ANY MORE!

Originally $25, I have slashed 40% OFF that price, bringing it to $14.95/bottle!!! This is a pretty damn rare opportunity — a STUNNING 92 point old-vine Shiraz at this level…for this price!?! DO NOT BLINK. Cheers.

Today, our tech guy Andy wanted to write an email so we let him take a shot…

“Whaddya mean, it comes in a can? Good beer comes in bottles!” Actually, according to the good folks over at Oskar Blues Brewery in Colorado, makers of Dale’s Pale Ale, this is simply not the case. They make a damn good argument: beer’s main enemy is light. Light causes beer to skunk – NOT temperature change! Well, which is better at keeping light out, a can or a bottle? It actually seems kinda obvious when you think about it! Cans are also way more convenient then bottles. If you’re going to the beach or camping or to a concert, you don’t want to deal with the bulk and weight of bottles.

So, besides the packaging, what’s so great about Dale’s Pale Ale? You probably wouldn’t expect it from a little can, but Dale’s is a top notch, HUGE brew, with a 6.5% ABV and a boatload of hops that give it 65 IBUs – that’s well into IPA territory! On ratebeer.com, Dale’s has ranked in the 98th percentile overall and 100th percentile for its style. In fact, it’s #5 on their top American Pale Ales list. Need I say more?

We’re putting Dale’s on sale for $29.99 a case. With the high hop content and the protective aluminum can Dale’s will last forever, so pick up a couple cases for your next outing and you won’t have to settle for convenience over quality!
